CEREN KEYMAN KIRBAŞ

Having graduated from the Department of Violin under the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts of Bilkent University in 2003, the artist continued her education at Ecole Normale Musique de Paris. Afterwards, she has attended to and has still been working at the Academic Orchestra of Baskent University. She achieved her MM (Master of Music) degree in 2008. Since then, she has been performing in chamber music concerts alongside ORKA.

Apart from her job as a musician, she established her first jewellery collection under the name of “Keyman Design” in 2007. In her collection named “Water Instuments”, in which the traces of her profession is recognized for the first time, the designer has made use of authentic parts belonging to Turkish and European string instruments, such as violoncello, violin, classical Turkish fiddle and oud pegs. Alongside these materials, she has brought together the details of marine organisms and European instruments in terms of figure as well. In this way, she has created figures that at the same time look like an instrument and a marine organism.

In her latest work, she has combined keys of clarinet, which is a wind instrument, together with wood pieces found in nature. The keys have been silver plated on brass. As for brooches, the clarinet keys have been mounted on wood the same way as they are on the body of a clarinet and the keys rebound after being hit. The wood pieces have been used as they are found in nature, without any adjustments. A single collection has been composed of all the keys belonging to a single clarinet.
